Barrie historian's book on street names nominated for award. 'Streetwise in Barrie: An Historical Guide to Barrie Streetnames,' by local author and historian Brad Rudachyk, has been nominated for the Ontario Historical Society's Fred Landon Award. The award is offered for the best book on regional history in Ontario published in the past three years. It will be presented at the Ontario Historical Society annual meeting in Willowdale on May 3.
In a review recently published in the Ontario Historical Society Bulletin, Streetwise was described as "probably the most complete study of a Canadian city's street names ever compiled. Truly a labour of love by a local historian working, as it were, from the ground up." Streetwise is Rudachyk's second book. His first, 'Simcoe County Book of Days,' was published in 1998. Both are available at North County Books. Currently, the author has teamed up with Su Murdoch and designer Kurt Harding Schick to write 'Beautiful Barrie: The City and Its People - An Illustrated History.' It is scheduled for release in mid-2003 - just in time to mark Barrie's 150th birthday. (Barrie Advance, Friday December 13, 2002, pg. 19)
